The CAPTAIN AMERICA 3/BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN Battle Is Definitely Happening

It’s finally official: the biggest superhero cinematic battle of the decade will for sure be happening. Originally reported by The Hollywood Reporter last month, Marvel has sent out a press release confirming that Captain America 3 will be released on May 6, 2016. This means that it will go head-to-head with the Man of Steel sequel, a.k.a. Batman vs. Superman, on the same day.

There was speculation that Captain America 3 would switch dates, but after the strong performance of Captain America: The Winter Soldier over the last several weeks, Marvel likely felt that the Star Spangled Man with a plan could hold his own against two of the most popular superheroes of all time. Batman vs. Superman was originally set for release on July 17, 2015, putting it several months after Avengers: Age of Ultron, but was moved back almost a year to give the filmmakers more time to “realize their vision.”

Most of my thoughts on this showdown can be found on my original article, but needless to say this is going to be interesting to watch. There has been competition between Marvel and DC at the theaters in the past, most recently between Man of Steel and Iron Man 3, but this is the first time that these films have been released on the same day.

There is, however, one way this showdown could be cancelled. Even though they’ve already changed the release date once, DC may pull out and shift Batman vs. Superman to another week. This would make sure that their profits wouldn’t get eaten into by the competition, but it would also mean that they don’t have faith going up against Marvel. Considering Batman and Superman’s popularity and stature, this is unlikely to happen, but keep it in mind.

Regardless, I have this to say to fans everywhere: be careful. When you go to the midnight premiere of your preferable movie, whether it’s Captain America 3 or Batman vs. Superman, watch what you say if you’re nearby a fan of the other movie. It’s already possible that the theaters could explode from the massive volume of comic fans waiting in line; we don’t need a fight to break out as well.
