BOND to Return in SPECTRE!

The names McCubbin, John McCubbin, and do I have good news for you? Having been a James Bond fan since I was a kid, I have to admit that any news surrounding the franchise gets me excited. Having produced 23 films, and six incarnations of 007, the franchise has had no problem when it comes to standing the test of time, entering it’s 52nd year. It has however had some rocky patches throughout them years, with the dreadful film that was Die Another Day, and disappointment that was Quantum of Solace making this fanboy question just how much time the franchise has left. There was however some salvation for the series, with 2012’s Skyfall freshening up the franchise in a mesmerizing way.

Since then there has been one thing that has stirred in my mind; how the new film will follow-on from this? This question may be answered sooner rather than later, as having a release date of 23 October 2015 it won’t be long before Bond utilises his Licence to Kill once more. This isn’t the main news however, as during a press conference at Pinewood Studios, Skyfall and upcoming 24th Bond film director Sam Mendes revealed the title and cast. Titled SPECTRE, the 24th film will see Daniel Craig reprise his role as James Bond, with Ralph Fines, Ben Whishaw and Naomie Harris also returning as M, Q, and Moneypenny respectively. Oscar-winner Christopher Waltz will also feature in the film as Oberhauser, with Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista signed on as henchman Mr. Hinx, and Sherlock’s Andrew Scott as Whitehall newcomer DenbighLéa Seydoux and Monica Bellucci are also set to play Bond girls Madeleine Swann and Lucia Sciarra. In addition to this, it was revealed the Bond will be driving an Aston Martin DB10 throughout SPECTRE, and following the destruction of his DB5 during Skyfall. it’s awesome that he’ll be getting an upgrade.

Aston Martin DB10

But what does this news mean for the 24th Bond film? As any Bond fan will know, SPECTRE is an anagram for Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion, a terrorist organisation lead by supervillain Ernst Stavro Blofeld. Having been a thorn in Bond’s side during both the novels and films, it is amazing news that this organisation will be returning to our screens, with the concept of introducing them through a cryptic message working brilliantly with the modern/realistic look that the new Bond films have went for. But who will be the centre of the villainous organisation during SPECTRE? The obvious answer is that Waltz will secretly be playing Blofeld himself, being introduced in a similar way to Harris’ Moneypenny. This may however be a red herring, with the villain being a understudy to Blofeld. Either way, I’m sure Waltz will turn out to be the villain of this outing, as given his pedigree it would be criminal if otherwise.

Well I know I’m personally excited for this film, but what do you my fellow fanboys and fangirls think? Will SPECTRE follow in the footsteps of Skyfall? Or is the addition of Bond’s greatest foes overreaching?
