Benicio Del Toro Might Not Be Thanos After All In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

Remember a few days ago when it was revealed Oscar-winning actor Benicio Del Toro had signed up for a leading role in Guardians of the Galaxy? Myself and pretty much the rest of the internet immediately assumed he was playing Thanos, and got tremendously excited about the project. However, Marvel Freshman over at Comic Book Movie reports that Toro is in fact NOT playing the Avatar of Death, but someone else – who we previously heard was in the movie – entirely…

When British actress Ophelia Lovibond was cast, she was described by the trades as an “aide to the Collector.” Naturally we all assumed she would be playing Carina – the daughter of the Collector. In the comics he’s an Elder of the Universe who has a vision of Thanos destroying the universe and spends years collecting items/people to stop him and any other cosmic attack. Fits right in with what Marvel are planning. Anyway, CBM say that Del Toro will be playing Tanaleer Tivan (Collector) rather than Thanos.

My heart is currently breaking, but when Deadline broke the news they said that Del Toro signed a multi-picture deal and would go on to appear in several more MCU movies; maybe The Avengers 2? He was their villain in the comics, after all…

It’s a shame, I think this guy would have been PERFECT for Thanos. But now we beg the question… Who is playing him!? Do you want to see Benicio Del Toro as the Collector in Guardians of the Galaxy? Share your thoughts below.
