Batman Won’t Die in The Dark Knight Rises?

At the moment, the threat of Batman’s death in The Dark Knight Rises looms over the tired and weary minds of fanboys all over the globe. As we sit at our computer desks in bourbon drenched, huddled piles of debauchery, with our bright monitors as the only source of light in our basement dwellings (or is that just me?), we wonder….

If this is really how “The Legend Ends“, then does that mean the Caped Crusader is destined for a nice, cozy dirt nap six feet under?  Or is the Dubya B (as I like to refer to them) just using some fancy, easily misinterpreted slogan to increase the hype surrounding TDKR?

Well, sensing our wild late night bouts of speculation, Christian Bale seems to have answered the question. In an interview with Empire, the growly voiced actor discussed the future of the franchise:

“My understanding is that this is the last one. I think it’s appropriate, I think it’s going out at the right time. But … if Chris came to me with a script and said, ‘You know what? There is another story’ then I would love the challenge of making a fourth one work.”

You can’t really return to a series if your character’s dead, can you Mr. Bale? So, does that mean our favorite Bat-themed vigilante will survive? Or is the thespian’s reference to the fourth movie as a “challenge” some type of inside joke.

Yea it really would be a challenge to star in a sequel, considering I died at the end!!! Hahahahah, we really fooled them Nolan-ator!

Now let’s go verbally abuse the poor schmuck constructing the set lights!

In all seriousness, I’d really like to see this series continue, if just for the novelty of a Hollywood franchise surviving “Trilogy-itis”.

What do you guys think? Will Nolan and crew return?  Or is this really the end?  Like, really REALLY?
