Well, Barbara Gordon is. Whether she’s Batgirl or Oracle or herself is anybody’s guess.
A little while ago actress Jena Malone was cast in Batman v Superman and it was widely reported/believed that she was set to play Carrie Kelly, the spunky redhead Robin from The Dark Knight Returns, of which the movie draws a lot of inspiration from. Apparently that’s a load of bull. Latino Review are saying that, instead, she’ll be playing Jim Gordon’s daughter!
They cite three different sources who all say the same thing so there is some legitimacy to this. How or why she’s turning up is anybody’s guess; a rumour from a while back stated that at this point in the world, Jim Gordon is long dead. Given how a lot of this DC Universe seems to be past events, what with Batman being active for twenty years and Robin being dead and what not. Because of all that I wouldn’t be surprised if the form we see her in is that of Oracle.
In The Killing Joke, the Joker shot Barbara Gordon through the back and she ended up confined to a wheelchair. She then became known as Oracle, a super hacker who helped Batsy out numerous times with computer-related things. Batman and the Joker have a history so it isn’t too much of a leap to think that as well as killing Jason Todd he also almost killed Barbara. We’ve yet to see the character on screen (aside from a little girl in The Dark Knight), so why not introduce her as a badass disabled hacker chick?! We don’t need Batgirl.
There you have it, folks. Barbara Gordon is showing up in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Her role has been a complete mystery until now so I doubt we’ll get any official revelations soon, which means that we’ll finally know what the deal is with her sometime closer to March 26th, 2016.
