In an interview with the New York Times, director James Cameron offered a few updates on the status of the Avatar franchise, revealing that it “will not be ready until 2015 or later.” I don’t know if you guys are with me, but the little amount of me that cared about a sequel withered away years ago. The original is now boring and painful to watch. Anyway, Cameron said he’s still hard at work on both screenplays for the next two movies and states that talk of a fourth movie is “premature,” as last month Sigourney Weaver hinted that Cameron would shoot three more movies back-to-back.
Additionally, the director said that he plans to shoot the movies in New Zealand and has already purchased land. He and his family will move there for a year and a half and technical work will be done on soundstages and at Peter Jackson’s Weta Digital studio. If he does shoot in New Zealand, it’ll be no doubt that added with the amazing effects the movie will be even more visually stunning than the last. But as we all know (I hope so anyway), visual effects and pretty explosions do NOT make a good movie. I sure hope Cameron’s busting his ass in his office back at home on those screenplay’s. Do you want to see an Avatar sequel? Sound off below.
