Marvel’s recent casting announcements have added a degree of surprise to their upcoming movies, from John C. Reily in Guardians of the Galaxy, to Vin Diesel’s cryptic teases on his possible role in a future movie.
However, if you were looking forward to seeing a former smooth talking NBC network executive grace the Marvel Universe, well, your luck has run out.
In a recent interview on The Howard Stern Show, 30 Rock star Alec Baldwin revealed that he had been offered a role in an upcoming Marvel movie, but turned it down due to his wife’s pregnancy.
“I have [been offered a role in a superhero movie], but I won’t mention which one. I don’t want to undo somebody because they hired someone else to do it. But they asked me to play a villain in one of these Marvel Comics movies.”
I’m not gonna lie, Alec Baldwin is not an actor I would turn to right away for being in a Marvel movie. Call it typecasting, but there are certain actors who fit into certain genres very well and other genres not so much, and the superhero flick doesn’t scream Alec Baldwin to me.
Maybe I’m just opinionated because I still suffer PTSD flashbacks from that terrible Shadow movie he starred in. Good Lord, that was a messed-up movie! I still have nightmares of Baldwin’s nose growing to gigantic proportions when he morphed into the nighttime vigilante.
Call me crazy, but there is one villainous role I could see him playing: Aleksander Lukin in the upcoming Captain America movie. Known as the Winter Soldier’s superior during Ed Brubaker’s opening arc, I could see Baldwin putting on a Russian accent and feeding orders to a brainwashed Bucky Barnes.
…No, never mind. That is too crazy.
