6 Whole Minutes From The Amazing Spider-Man

This weekend IMAX viewers will receive a very special Spidey treat when they rush to theatres to see Men In Black III. Besides receiving your recommended summer dose of Will Smith (as prescribed by the kindly pop culture docs), you’ll be privy to a very exclusive 6 minute preview of The Amazing Spider-Man. Too cool, right?

Well, we’ve managed to get our hands on an amateur’s (ahem Bootlegger’s) low-res copy of the clip, so check it out in all of it’s web slinging glory below.

REMOVED AT THE STUDIO’S REQUEST

I don’t think anyone expects too much from this film, but it definitely has the potential to surprise the masses.  Although, with the release of The Dark Knight Rises only a few weeks after, Peter Parker might get buried beneath the tsunami of Bat-love.

S#*! TALKING CENTRAL

I’m sick of the haters on this stupid site. Nobody expects much? Really? You are either annoying Raimi fanboys or have your heads so far up Nolan’s criminally overrated keister that you can’t see what is obvious. I’ve converesed with critics via twitter and they are excited to see what Webb will do. His last film was acclaimed. And Garfield and Stone are top shelf. Boxoffice.com has said that the positve buzz from the first trailer to the last is rare. Check it out fanboy and get out of your cynical circle of “friends” , So keep hating on this irrelevant little site in the corner of the web, and wait with baited breath for Batman to get his back broken and then die. I didn’t see that one coming…

Here’s why no one expects TASM to surprise (in other words, be the #1 CBM of the summer):

      1) saturation of the comic book movie market

      2) Avengers

      3) The Dark Knight Rises

      4) The Avengers

      5) The Avengers

      6) A reboot of a beloved series (which always struggle, just look at the Box Office for Batman Begins vs. Tim Burton’s original Batman flick… adjust for inflation of course)

So I think it’s fair to say that no one expects this movie to do any record-breaking

  • Joey

With all or that said and done your forgeting one major factor spiderman is the 2nd most popular superhero ever.Casino royal was a reboot that didnt take a loss.Add 3d its not set out to out do avengers or tdkr financially its gonna set its own ground easily and attempt to wash away the abomination called spiderman3!

    • Steve Lemlek

Great points, but I think the 007 franchise is a bit different… and they’re definitely not on the same scale as Spider-Man or Batman.

The expectations for the previous Spidey Films were really high, though: They were the best films of their respective summers and highest grossing (unless a Pirates flick came out that year)

I don’t see how TASM can live up to that

  • Michael

Exactly right Joey. I don’t deem success as box office alone. Just because a movie does a billion doesn’t make it quality. Although the Avengers was great. Yes reboot fatigue will be an issue, but 3D plus expanded markets make IM type numbers WW a strong strong possibility. Possibly more which would be excellent for a reboot.

And I expect it to be a critical hit as well with critics considering the talent involved. But we’ll see, I certainly hope so because I really like the tone Webb is establishing. I’d love to see some sequels down the road. But first things first.

  • Michael

And I apologise for the tone of my initial post. I just think PLENTY of people are expecting a success from this film. I’m one of the PLENTY on that train. :)

    • Steve Lemlek

      Haha, that’s quite alright.

I think this honestly could be the best CBM of the summer. I really like the new direction that Peter Parker is headed, but I can’t see it being a behemoth like the first 3 Spider-Man’s.

I think there’s just too much momentum for the movies surrounding its release date

  • Michael

“I think this honestly could be the best CBM of the summer”

    I agree Steve.

And I definitely see your point about the film being squeezed between the enormous hype of the two films surrounding it. But all it really takes is a single weekend to win people over and capture the collective imagination. Or to undue a year’s worth of hype and good will on the flipside. I expect the film’s quality to have a big impact on the WOM. And GI Joe’s departure from the 29th can only help the box office totals.

I don’t expect TASM to match the WW totals of any of the Raimi films this time around, but I’ll be shocked if it doesn’t do $750 m WW if it’s good. And If that holds true then all bets are off for the ‘s total :)

    • Steve Lemlek

I could see 750 million World Wide, especially with 3d. Now I’m just hoping it’s as good as it looks.

On a seperate note, I’m a huge Rhys Ifans fan, but you can’t help but feel bad for Dylan Baker (the doc connors from Raimi’s trilogy). That guy spent so much time with the character and was just tossed aside. But… he wouldn’t have made sense in a reboot anyway… still sucks though

  • Michael

I’m also a big fan of Rhys. When I heard he was cast in the role I thought of his work in A Number. It really displayed that he can be sympathetic without going over-the-top. And we know he can play on that sinister undercurrent. In Pirate Radio he had a sort of reptillian quality to him lol. And that voice, can’t wait to hear his Lizard voice, wonderful actor. Great nuance.

Dylan Baker in definitely unfortunate. Thought he would be the Lizard in SM3 for sure. You would think it would have been something Raimi would have jumped at.

  • Michael

What happened to the video Steve….Temporary? Did Sony ask you guys to take it down? I couldn’t get enough of that Peter and Gwen scene :)

    • Steve Lemlek

The powers that be had us take it down!
