2012 Is Now The Highest-Grossing Year Ever For Movies

2012 has been a pretty massive year for movies, with blockbusters like The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, The Amazing Spider-Man, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and Skyfall all releasing in these last 12 months – so it shouldn’t be a surprise that 2012 has now officially become the highest grossing year ever for cinema.

A monster $10.6B was made domestically for movies in 2012 (thanks to Joss Whedon, dwarves, and James Bond), edging out 2009’s total of $10.59B – spurred on by the record-smashing run of Avatar.

And with Iron Man 3, Star Trek into Darkness, Man of Steel, The Wolverine, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Thor: The Dark World and more all releasing in 2013, next year might just top that.
