YOUNG JUSTICE: INVASION “The Hunt” Review

As Young Justice: Invasion keeps getting better and better, I have to keep wondering why Cartoon Network would cancel a treasure like this. They must be crazy. Sigh. Anyway, on to the review. Spoilers ahead!

After last week’s episode focused on Artemis and Miss Martian, this week’s episode returns to the “A” plot. Lex Luthor (Mark Rolston) sends the “Runaways” team to War World (which the Reach have confiscated) to rescue the kidnapped heroes. Luckily, Nightwing (Jesse McCartney) and Miss Martian (Danica McKellar) are planning a rescue mission themselves. And Arsenal (Crispin Freeman) is still on War World too. And he is ready to kick some Reach butt.

Once again, the heroes go on the offensive against the Reach, and I love it. This is what the heroes should be doing, taking the battle to the Reach. I actually really like the “Runaways”, si I was pleased that the writers saw fit to give them another episode. They’ve been honing their skills offscreen, it seems. Asami Koizumi (Janice Kawaye) has even learned some English, and Tye Longshadow (Gregg Rainwater) is able to use his powers faster now.

One scene back on Earth that I really enjoyed was an interview between the Reach ambassador and G. Gordon Godfrey (Tim Curry). Godfrey has been the most annoying character in the show up untill now. He always rags on the League, and sides with the Reach. But not this time. Here, on live TV, he yells at the Ambassador for lying about those ships that the Reach had hidden on Earth, and I loved every second of it. Godfrey scolding the Reach was awesome, and my respect for him went up a notch.

Back on War World, Arsenal (who is growing on me) ends up helping the Runaways, but not in a way they expect; Arsenal, for better or worse, FREES MONGUL (Keith David) so that he can fight Black Beetle (Kevin Grevioux). It is another “OH YEAH!” moment. I’ve always wanted to see Mongul and Black Beetle throw down. Unfortunately, in one of my few complaints about the episode, we’re cheated out of the fight. ARGH, those writers tease me so…

And at the very end of the episode, Nightwing makes a jerk call, I’d say. What he does is completely uncalled for. It makes me feel sympathetic for Arsenal.

Anyway, another awesome episode. As we near the end, I find myself hoping that by some miracle, the show continues.
