YOUNG JUSTICE: INVASION “Endgame” SERIES FINALE Review

This morning’s episode of Young Justice: Invasion, Endgame, marked the end of this wonderful show. I am saddened at Cartoon Network for canceling this show. I have a feeling that things would have gotten even more epic as time went on. Anyway, with manly tears in my eyes, time for my final Young Justice review. Spoilers ahead!

In this episode, Black Beetle (Kevin Grevioux) begins his endgame. He is through playing around; he means to blow up Earth in one fell swoop using these alien bombs. He is so serious about this, even he doesn’t know how to deactivate the bombs (I guess in case of telepaths). The bombs are scattered all across the planet, and the League is still on trial. Now, the team must defeat Black Beetle and stop all the bombs….before Earth is lost!

This was a very good, mostly satisfying conclusion. We get many character moments (Black Lightning (Khary Payton) offering to mentor Virgil (Bryton James) is a pretty sweet “I should have seen that coming” moment, and Lex Luthor (Mark Rolston) shows why he is still one of the smartest humans in DC), and the action scenes are still very good.

Black Lightning and Static…a partnership made in Heaven!

The dialogue remains strong, the whole cast is likeable at this point, and the animation almost never falters (although there is one scene where Wonder Girl’s face looks….odd). Man, I will miss this show.

I suppose I have some negatives to list here. Black Beetle’s climatic fight with Blue Beetle (Eric Lopez) and Green Beetle (Phil LaMarr) is surprisingly anti-climatic, with Blue Beetle winning after making a friendship speech. And it was too bad that most of the bomb-deactivating was off-screen, although I guess showing all of that would have taken too much screen-time. And one major character’s death didn’t feel all that emotional, for some reason.

This series is canceled? Lame.

Otherwise, wow. I’m sad. I really loved this show, and now…thats it. We still have the upcoming video game, which is something, but wow. This show will be leaving a hole that won’t be easily filled. Goodbye, Young Justice! Maybe one day, you’ll be revived, in some form.

Some final notes: Aqualad (Khary Payton) fans will be happy to see him taking the reins of the team again, Miss Martian (Danica McKellar) and Superboy (Nolan North) and Artemis (Stephanie Lemelin) and Kid Flash (Jason Spisak) have some cute moments, and Arsenal (Crispin Freeman) is still a loner. Oh, and that cliff-hanger. Its the coolest and most infuriating thing ever. coughcoughDarkseidcoughcough.
