TEEN TITANS GO! “Hey Pizza!” Review

I think it is safe to say that most people reading this love pizza. In general, people love pizza. I love pizza. But sometime, pizza-love can be taken too far! SPOILERS!

In “Hey Pizza!“, Beast Boy (Greg Cipes) and Cyborg (Khary Payton), bored our of their minds, decide to take the local pizza challenge from Zippy’s Pizza.. The challenge is that if Zippy’s takes thirty minutes or more, the pizza is totally free! However, each time BB and Cyborg try to stop the delivery man, their efforts yield no fruit (well, they still get the pizza, they just have to pay for it).

Meanwhile, Robin (Scott Menville) promises the senior citizens that he’ll build them a senior center, but then faces the temptation of building a pool instead after Starfire (Hynden Walch) promises that she’ll model a bikini. What is a teenage boy to do?

This episode lacks the cute charm of the previous Larva episode, but it has plenty of humorous scenes. Cyborg and Beast Boy, wanting their free pizza, keep trying to delay the delivery boy, each time more outrageous than the last, until it reaches Looney Tunes level of absurdity. Lasers and man-eating robot sharks? Yup!

Robin’s sub-plot wasn’t quite as enjoyable, although I found myself sympathetic to his plight. With that said, there was one thing I didn’t get: why didn’t Robin just build a pool inside the senior center?

But, the best part of the whole segment is by far the ending, for two reasons! The first being the epic ending to the pizza delivery sub-plot. All of Beast Boy and Cyborg’s efforts were in vain, but then! And for Robin, he does the right thing, gets rewarded, and then!

I won’t spoil those scenes, but you won’t see them coming, I promise!
