E3 2012: Playstation All-Star Battle Royale Wish List

Last night, the official Playstation facebook page leaked two images suggesting both a Big Daddy from Bioshock and Nathan Drake from the Uncharted series will feature in the upcoming Playstation All-Star Super Battle Royale Deluxotron (add other equally convoluted hyperbole as you please). Whiles this is interesting for not only explaining the lack of ring-outs as a mechanic, due to the fact it’s impossible for Nathan Drake to ever actually fall to his death, it also reinforces the concept of strong 3rd party support for the character roster.

With Sony’s E3 Press Conference live at 2am GMT, they will no doubt blow the doors off one of their most anticipated 2012 games. With the arrival of the Big Daddy (already high up on my list of characters I’d hope would make an appearance) here are five more 3rd party characters that we would love to see!

1) John Marston

Not only would a Red Dead Redemption themed level be great fun to play on, John Marston is one of the most beloved characters of this generation of gaming. His western drawl would provide a comfort as a maniacal clown rides around the stage in a huge mech. In terms of fighting his lasso could provide an interesting mechanic as a sort of grapple attack and who can argue with his unstoppable skinning finisher (we all know that was the best part of the game…)?

2) Bayonetta

With magical hair that she shapes into devastating attacks, Santa Monica would have free reign to create some pretty outrageous moves. Not to mention her signature dual wielded pistols ‘Scarborough Fair’ she would make for a very good agile, ranged character. Her upcoming appearance in beat-em-up Anarchy Reigns might create problems with her appearing in Battle Royale but we can hope.

3) Ezio Auditore

Ezio’s appearance in Soul Caliber V shows a willingness for the Assassin’s Creed licence to cross over and I can see Ubisoft wanting to make some kind of appearance in Battle Royale, whether it be a familiar face like Ezio or Connor the assassin from the upcoming Assassin’s Creed 3 this autumn. With hidden blades, smoke bombs and maybe even a move which disguises him as another player Ezio could be a very fun character to use!

4) Adam Jensen

This guy is a perfect choice for a melee brawler, an up close and personal style of attack compounded by his biotic implants, he would have the strength of his wall pulverising arms and the mobility of his pogo stick shaming legs. Maybe his finisher could be an earthquake induced by the resonance of his incredibly low voice.

5) Batman

The final guy on the list, and I’m hesitant to include because, well… He breaks the game. It’s a well known fact that Batman could beat anybody. To start with, if Batman was on the roster, who would want to play as anyone else?! Beyond this, in the Arkham games Batman is roughly the size of a Metal Gear with arms bigger than Sly Cooper’s entire body so maybe scaling him down onto the level would present some problems… But c’mon it’d be worth it just to say you had Batman in your game! Get to work Santa Monica.

As the first brawler of this type to feature a robust online network, both the chance for online play and downloadable characters is truly exciting. The character roster can contiunally evolve and new skins can be added based on upcoming games. Hopefully Sony can secure some top rate characters to make it a blast to play.
