BLACK PANTHER is SPIDER-MAN

Marvel Studios, as it is, sits high and mighty in the pantheon of summer blockbusters. Their latent mutant, I mean, miracle ability is to produce movies that both critics and audience members dig. So much so that they’re throwing mountains of money their way and let’s be honest no one saw that coming. And yes Black Panther will be Spider-Man, mark my words.

Go with me here, if you’re a Disney executive you know that one of the most pivotal arcs in event history, especially for the House of Ideas, was that testosterone laced grudge fest with a lackluster finish aka CIVIL WAR. And one of the things that struck a cord with audience members, beside the hero versus hero angle, happened to be the personal journey of the one and only Peter Benjamin Parker.

Spider-Man stuck in the Middle

Our wall-crawler went from idolizing the Avengers to having to pick sides between two founding members at the height of their awesomeness. Each had a strong argument to make with divisions even among our own niche community. Well Spider-Man picked but along the way he transformed his view and amended that choice. It might have had to do with Tony Stark and his Negative Zone Prison, but we’ll let the scholars decide.

Now in this shared Cinematic Universe there really is no young character for audience members to grab onto. Even if Andrew Garfield got the call and was able to suit up it just wouldn’t be the same. Marvel would do something that felt like a desperate attempt to throw in a character for his name while saving Sony‘s movie line in the process.

So I submit to you that Chadwick Boseman will get caught in the middle of this scuffle.

Marvel Studios Fan Event

That’s right the Black Panther will fill that role. And why do I think this? Because I believe that T’Challa will hit the big screen in next summer’s Marvel’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron. He’ll be a young man from an isolationist land who happens to meet the current crop of icons in their fighting prime. Maybe he’ll even assist them in stopping the madness.

If his role is smaller then I suspect this could still work. Imagine him as an impressionable soon to be icon who may or may not meet Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Hawkeye and Black Widow before they disassemble. It’ll leave an impression and a craving to see what else the world has to offer.

The Avengers

With allies in tow he could, like Peter, live among Earth’s Mightiest only to see the last bits of whatever trust holds them together wither and die in Captain America: Civil War.

Think of it as Coming To America but minus most of the comedy with a splash of cynicism and a whiff of that oh so tragic loss of life in Stamford, Connecticut.

Now be honest with me. Does this sound stupid? Or do you think I’m onto something? And if I’m right are on board with this?
