Why we need AGENT COULSON!

Alright I’m going to go ahead and preface this whole thing as RAMPANT SPECULATION. But it’s been rolling around my head lately and I need to get it off my chest.

THERE WILL BE SPOILERS!

(You’ve been warned)

Ever since Agent Coulson got his miraculous recovery, I kept thinking why did Nick Fury save him? Sure’s he’s awesome at what he does and is certainly someone worth having around but what was the point? Honestly I think the answer lies in where they both work: S.H.I.E.L.D.

Think about what we’ve seen so far:

• The Vice President assists in an assassination attempt on the President (Iron Man 3)
• Asgard unknowingly loses it’s king as Loki takes over… dressing like Odin (Thor: The Dark World)
• Scientists go super dark and almost ruin the planet (Iron Man 3)
• The 10 Rings are tormented by the shenanigans of a poser Mandarin (Iron Man 3, All Hail The King)

We’re witnessing corruption to the umpteenth degree.

Until now there’s been one, more or less, constant safe haven that we all know and love. They’ve enjoyed that rep since Iron Man arrived in theaters back in 2009 when they introduced themselves with that awkwardly long name. And it just makes sense that before the Age of Ultron trust in them would be tested.

Think about it. In a world of chaos where S.H.I.E.L.D. can’t be the good guys there’s a need for someone or something to fill that roll. It needs to monitor, prevent and handle all the problems that arise.

Hello Ultron.

Just look at the trailer for Captain America: The Winter Solder and tell me I’m reaching!

Doesn’t it seem like there be bad guys within?

WHO’S BEHIND IT

I don’t know. We’ve seen hints of a player called the Clairvoyant, but honestly I think the answer is much more familiar than people might think. When the Red Skull touched the Cosmic Cube it left a lot of questions in his wake. For me, it just feels right that somehow (Robert Redford’s character comes to mind) he’s behind all this.

Cap’s been working with the modern day version of the Strategic Scientific Reserve since he returned and if you were an arch-nemesis wouldn’t you want to ruin the people that prevented your plans for world domination in the first place?

Just imagine a present incarnation of Hydra with sleeper agents around the globe just waiting to strike.

Now ask yourself: who better to root out corruption than one of Director Fury’s most trusted? Especially since he’s got his own elite team that’s just ready to go fight some dastardly Nazis!

I’ve seen people question whether or not Agent Coulson is human. Even go so far as to speculate that he might be a Life Model Decoy. But come on!

Doesn’t this make more sense?

Besides remember when people, for a time, were beyond excited about that one show on ABC? This might just elevate it to a whole new level or I’m just way off base here. What do you think?
