5 STAR WARS Spinoff Films That Need To Be Made

After word spread that Gareth Edwards (Godzilla 2014) and Josh Trank (Chronicle) are going to direct Star Wars spinoff movies, the Internet exploded among the fanboy community on which characters earned their own movie. The first names dropped into the rumor pool were Boba Fett, Han Solo and everyone’s favorite fun-size Jedi master Yoda. However, with a vast universe of interesting and weird characters living in the galaxy far, far away, many other possibilities open up for some really cool films that’ll show us a side of Star Wars that doesn’t directly include the Skywalker family. My top 5 characters/stories deserving of a movie are:

5. Podracer

Pod-Ben_Quadinaros-1

Ben Quadinaros is one of the few fan favorite characters out of Phantom Menace, along with Darth Maul and Qui Gon Jinn. I don’t know why so many people like Ben. After reading into his biography and trying to figure out why so many wanted him to appear in The Clone Wars, I learned that his species, along with him, are pretty much cowards; timid creatures who buckle under pressure. However, taking into consideration the amount of fans Quadinaros has drawn, a movie about his life seems like it would be a good fit for a movie about a scaredy cat who faces his worst fears and competes in one of the galaxies most dangerous races.

Include cameos from other racers seen in Episode 1 (like Sebulba) have the film be made by Pixar, who have a long track record of producing great films with original stories. Mix in tracks that resemble the ones from the live action Speed Racer movie, and there you have a perfect spin-off film that doesn’t include Jedi, Sith, or bounty hunters, and utilizes a side of Star Wars not many fans no about.

4. Ewoks

When I was a kid, I was a fan of the live action TV movies about the Ewoks which took place before Return of the Jedi. Looking back at them now, though, I realized the movies don’t fit into the overall story as good as they could have. Once again, with Pixar’s help, we could return to these dated entries of the Star Wars mythos and create something spectacular and fun for the entire family out of the ashes of the old EU canon. This time, however, the movie should take place between Episode VI and VII, where in those 30 years, some of the Ewoks left the forest moon of Endor and explore the galaxy around them.

3. Cad Bane

Before the cancellation of The Clone Wars, Dave Filoni had stated we would have seen Bane meet his fate in an arc that included Boba Fett, Embo, and Aurra Sing, who was also supposed to meet her end by the end of the story. Although The Clone Wars ended with two successful “series finales”(Ahsoka leaving the Jedi Order & Yoda training to become a force ghost), some loose ends were left behind. A standalone movie about one of the greatest bounty hunters introduced in The Clone Wars would be a cool way to give Bane the ending he deserves. I can imagine a live action Star Wars version of The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, in which Boba Fett is the good, Bane is the Bad, and Aurra Sing is the ugly (lol).

2. Dooku & Qui Gon

count-dooku

Dooku wasn’t always a bad guy. He was once a well respected Jedi Master, as well as apprentice to one of the most powerful Jedis in the galaxy: Yoda. A spin-off detailing the life of a young Dooku teaching Qui Gon how to be reckless, and how the corruption of the Jedi Order & the Republic lead him to leave and become the treacherous Sith lord he died as.

1. Shadows of the Empire

I know the game has been made non-canon, but the storyline was awesome, and it introduced a few cool characters we may never see again, like Xizor and Dash Rendar. If Disney and Licasfilm were able to “re-imagine” Shadows of the Empire and have it return to canon in an updated spinoff movie, I’m sure fans would be proud and confident involve to picture their other favorite stories from the old EU to return to canon with new “paint.”
