Wonder Woman #13 Review

In the aftermath of Wonder Woman #12, can the last Amazon muster the gumption to seek vengeance against the god that betrayed her?  Read on to find out.

The official description from DC:

• A terrible betrayal forces Wonder Woman to make a deal with the gods who want her dead!

• Ares, god of war, takes a sudden interest in the Amazing Amazon!

So we had what could arguably be the best release of this new series and then Zero month happened.  The steam and streak of the story was broken to tell a back-up feature that was entertaining but nonetheless prevented all of us from reading what happened after such an epic conclusion.  Thankfully things are back on track, as the story barrels on with some exciting results.

Brian Azzarello throws up a script that is all about setting the stage for the next chunk of this saga.  We have a new dynamic with a mortal Hera, Apollo off somewhere with Zola‘s stolen child and the rest of the gods and goddesses taking notice of our protagonist following her show of force against Artemis.  It’s an interesting phase that shows the strengths of the previous plot threads by expertly weaving them into a tapestry that will surely spill out into some very strong narrative shifts in the coming months, but with that said there’s nothing really revolutionary that happens here.

Tony Akins and Dan Green deliver some of their best work in this series to date.  The stand-in artists use each pencil stroke to form and formulate a vision of the tale that’s in sync with the work done by Cliff Chiang.  Each character looks as they should as a visceral and exciting experience forms with only a couple minor missteps.

Wonder Woman #13 is another excellent issue that maintains the quality of the title.  If you’re buying comics today there’s absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t be picking this one up.  Recommended.
