Vampirella #25 Review

With the world caught in the balance of this epic struggle can our scarlet clad heroine come out on top?  Read on to find out.

The official description from Dynamite:

HELL ON EARTH concludes here, bringing the second year of Dynamite’s Vampirella series to a close! The two most powerful vampires on Earth are clashing in a fury of blood and fire, and the balance of Chaos and Order is at stake!

With all kinds of supernatural heroes and villains descending on the Earth, what hope does our planet have to even muster the gumption to survive this conflict?  The answer is simple enough, as Dracula and his minions descend it all rests on the shoulder’s of the girl wearing the red straps.

The series writer, Brandon Jerwa, does a splendid job moving the pieces on his proverbial chessboard and despite there being so many he tries his best to give each of them a moment to shine.  However, this is not a release that uplifts character development instead what we get is non-stop action and trust me after the last few issues that’s exactly what the story calls for.  Up to this point there have been various plot threads that have been building toward this, and now we get to sit back and watch everything come tumbling down in favor of a straight up confrontation.

Heubert Kahn Michael handles the art for this epic battle and he does a splendid job giving all the various fighters their proper form among the chaos surrounding them.  It’s not an easy task to deliver pencil strokes on a grandiose scale like this, but this talented man accomplishes his work with only a few minor missteps.  There are moments where faces and bodies look far too deformed creating some fairly unappealing and even underwhelming shots, but overall the work on display matches the quality of the script.

Vampriella #25 delivers a very strong ending that suits this arc.  Despite some very minor hiccups here and there this outing easily earns a recommendation.
