Can Vampirella handle the events in this latest story arc or will the storied heroine fall victim to the pitfalls therein? Read on to find out.
The official description from Dynamite:
INQUISITION continues here! There is a revolution brewing in the depths of Vatican City, and Vampirella is caught in the crossfire! Who do you side with when you can’t trust anyone?
Chock-full of intrigue, the latest issue of Vampirella finds our protagonist in a few rather precarious situations as allegiances shift and her fate hangs in the balance. From the Cestus Dei to Dracula‘s newly amassed power, the world itself looks to be in some dire straits as plot twists and dynamic turns yield a fun and engaging read.
Brandon Jerwa does an excellent job penning a script that moves the story pieces forward. There’s action, some drama and a few choice scenes that rise above the fray to deliver some climactic sequences. Fans are given some intriguing developments with little exploration behind the specific motivations for many of these actions, truth be told the story itself ends far too quickly. It’s not a bad thing, but I’ll be honest I reached the last page and it left me frustrated because I wanted to know what happens next.
Heubert Khan Michael provides art that complements the narrative quite well. His rendition of Vampirella is lavishly detailed, exquisitely portioned and capable of a range of emotions and actions that perfectly inform the script. The rest of the characters are handled with care but there are moments where details drop off and the otherwise splendid pencil work looks a tad bit rushed.
Vampirella #22 is a solid continuation of this latest story arc, that honestly left me desiring the next issue. It carries the narrative forward in stellar fashion offering current readers and fans quite a few reasons to pick-up this latest outing. Recommended.
