After an explosive first issue, Transformers: Primacy #2 has a lot to build on. Part 2 in a 4 part series, there are still plenty of signs to be read and Transformers fans will want to give this issue a read.
The official description from IDW:
DECEPTICONS ASSEMBLE! The war for CYBERTRON begins in earnest! MEGATRON brings together the deadliest of his troops for an unbelievable assault on the AUTOBOTS—and the TRANSFORMERS’ world is shaken to the core!
Well, this issue opens up to a strong start and continues to perform. The general setting is expanded here, visiting a number of important and new locations. Similar to the last issue, a previous reading of Autocracy and Monstrosity is not strictly needed, but Primacy #2 is much more rewarding for long time fans.
In terms of writing, it’s clear this series is put together from someone who understands the lore. Chris Metzen and Flint Dille provide a script that depicts its characters well, often setting up little mini-stories or scenes that help establish their nature. Throughout all of this, the biggest focus here is arguably Megatron and the series is all the better for it – this is heavily about the continued rise of the Decepticons.
Visually, we still have the beautiful artwork from Livid Ramondelli. The various settings allow Ramondelli to utilize a range of colors, shades and hue. It’s effective and makes the issue a beautiful sight from start to finish. The larger panels are often fantastic because of the coloring approach, but even the smaller panels ooze character, even if they lose out on detailed pencils at times.
All in all, this is a fantastic follow up that ends on a pretty good cliffhanger. If you liked the first issue, you’ll love this one just as much.
