Tooth and Claw #2 Review

With the previous issue being a huge disaster, how can our heroes’ come back from a troubling blow? Read on to find out more.

After the shattering disaster last issue, the Great Champion of ancient legend is reawakened. And things get worse. Plus! A special variant cover by ALEX ROSS, painting more animal-people at once than he ever has before!

This series reminds me of a very adult version of the Redwall series, which is also badass and ToothandClaw02-CoverA-8b9d8super awesome. So the last issue we had the war beginning, however, it seemed that it was more a genocide for our characters from the minotaurs. Well the issue picks up immediately after, the characters are speaking of a great hero that would come and save them from the pain that could befall them. Everyone has an idea of what is the hero. Some people think that it’s their particular species. Well as we find out, the savior of the people is actually a human. Let me tell you this, he is a badass. We get to see the animals really contemplate what is happening and who this new character is. They are not sure whether or not he is the great champion. I do think that they could have provided a little less information. It is so much talking but it’s pretty well done.

Kurt Busiek has a great way of creating atmosphere. The fact that these characters are talking but, also, they have this urgency of a threat coming, is woven so well that I couldn’t read it fast enough. I was drawn but the story and characters, which is what a comic should do.

Benjamin Dewey is a fantastic artist. His sense of mood with the panels, makes the comic exciting to read. When the battle happens the art is on par with the rating with keeping up the pace. It is awesome.
