The Red Ten #3 Review

With their numbers dwindling can the heroes figure out what exactly is going on before it’s too late?  Read on to find out.

The official description from ComixTribe:

And then there were eight…Fear mounts after the second death of one of their own suggests that THE ALLIANCE is not alone on the island. Was this the Oxymoron’s brilliant plan all along, or is something even more sinister afoot? Another hero falls, and shocking revelation in this pivotal third issue.

The biggest problem with the big two companies is that they have all of these heroes and villains that we all know and love but they never really let their creative teams do something insane with them. Thankfully we have independent crews who do series’ like this one so that eager fanboys and fangirls can dream about epic crossovers with a serious impact on continuity.

What Tyler James has done with his script is emulate some very classic archetypes that we all know and love.  He effortlessly builds a history around them making this version of a reality chock-full of superheroes feel both familiar and quite natural.  From the first page to the final sentence I was thoroughly impressed with the festivities featured here, as each protagonist had to face the question of their mortality while steadying themselves for the inevitability that someone would surely punch out their proverbial clock.

Cesar Feliciano continues to handle the art and his pencil work is improving with each page.  There were some very select moments where faces or details just seemed to be a tad bit off but for the most part he matched the quality of the narrative as he embraced the bulk of the saga in a way that yielded some serious credibility to this engrossing scenario.  I especially enjoyed his depictions of the flashback sequences, easily some of his best stuff yet.

The Red Ten #3 is a somewhat tough comic book as it tells a story that might not resonate with every reader out there but the overall quality here is certainly worthwhile.  For that reason it absolutely earns a recommendation.
