The End Times of Bram & Ben #3 Review

As this laughable but addicting end of the world yarn enters its third outing, does it continue to offer something that’s worthwhile?  Read on to find out.

The official description from Image:

Bram grows his cult following by throwing Burning Bram – a 66.6 hour festival of Rock, Revelry, & Revelations! But when Ben chooses to side with Heaven, all Hell breaks loose! Plus: the reveal of the true Antichrist, someone gets roofied, and a shock ending you’d least expect!

When it comes to stories that attempt to approach the end of the world, they tend to take themselves a bit too seriously.  So allow me to say that it’s about time someone approached it with some much needed spunk and a humorous spin.

James Asmus and Jim Festante work together to pen this possibly offensive but expertly crafted piece of fiction that simply makes use of all the inherent societal motifs the creative duo can muster.  In short these two authors play with some stereotypical tropes but they do so in a way that never feels forced as they embrace the End of Days in an authentic but deliciously zany way.  The core mechanics of this release rely heavily on the dialogue and thankfully it’s more than up to snuff as these two talented writers have a field day with both the demons and angels.

The art by Rem Broo continues to be a source of sheer glee, as unique but brilliantly executed pencil strokes efficiently bring to life this chaotic version of the apocalypse. From the first page to the final panel the talent effortlessly births quirky renditions of people and objects set within the confines of the narrative.  The end result is that when the madness really kicks into high gear the audience is treated to a visceral visual experience as it charts its course as an engaging ride.

The End Times of Bram & Ben #3 is a penultimate issue with a killer cliffhanger that’s sure to keep fans glued to their seats as they await next month’s conclusion. Trust me when I say this comic comes highly recommended.
