You heard it here first folks, Matt Fraction’s relaunch of The Defenders will officially draw to a close this November after a 12 issue run. While no official reason for the series’ cancellation was given, I think it’s safe to say it was because of low sales… and the inconvenient timing of the House of Ideas’ latest shakeup with Marvel Now!
I’ve always been a fan of the classic Defenders lineup (Hulk, Namor, Silver Surfer, and Doctor Strange), but I have to admit, Fraction’s newer iteration is superior. It’s the bee’s knees with honey on the side. It’s the sun to my morning walk. It’s the… ahhhh, I think you get the point.
But even though I love the book, there’s no way for it to sustain its luster with so many badass heroes waging war against comparably lame villains. Or maybe every baddie just looks lame when compared to the Silver Surfer. And yes, if you couldn’t tell, I’m obsessed with that chromed out herald.
