The Darkness is getting a movie?

Well Top Cow fans, rejoice!  Because there has been some traction on at least one of their cornerstone franchises finally making it to the big screen.  Sorry Witchblade faithful, it looks like Jackie Estacado and The Darkness might be coming soon to a theater near you first.

According to Comic Book Movie.com:

…The Darkness is getting the big screen treatment. Apparently Regency is nearing a deal to obtain the feature film rights with producers David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman (The Fighter, The Muppets, with Total Recall director and Len Wiseman on board also.

If you are not familiar with The Darkness, it’s a monthly comic book from Top Cow that follows the exploits of mafioso Jackie Estacado.  As the chosen bearer of one of the primal forces in their shared universe, Jackie gets into all kinds of brutal and violent trouble.  That being said, The Darkness is not necessarily evil (despite the name) but it is chaotic in its nature, as it allows its host to create whatever his or her little heart desires.  It’s a very powerful weapon.

So what do you guys think?  Are you ready for some mafia and supernatural action on the big screen?  Sound off with your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.
