Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles New Animated Adventures #3 Review

Are you ready for a spooky extension to this aged franchise?  Is it even worth your time?  Read on to find out.

The official description from IDW:

Things get spooky after Mikey watches a few too many zombie movies! When the people of NYC start acting a little… mindless, it’s up our fun-loving hero to face his fears and save the day! Will his brothers believe Mikey’s seemingly tall tale or will he be forced to face the hordes by himself?

I’m not going to lie I have found memories from my childhood centered around these heroes in a half-shell.  And the fact that there is yet another stellar series that continues their adventures today which allows me the opportunity to sit and watch them once again is beyond awesome.  And this comic book is a logical extension of that fact.

Scott Tipton, David Tipton with the help of Kenny Byerly bring a unique air to the festivities as they seamlessly transition the comedy and drama of this show to the confines of still panels.  Following a basic structure the authors attack the central theme of trust, as the brothers themselves are put in a position where they have to question the claims of their goofy but lovable sibling, Michelangelo.  It creates an interesting dynamic that the scribes are quick to capitalize on, especially when a bigger threat is revealed.

To say that Dario Brizuela handles the art is doing a disservice to someone who seamlessly brings all the spice and kinetic flow fans are familiar with to the space between these pages.  It’s true that we have nothing but still illustrations but thanks to the sturdy work of this talent the action packed saga flows in a very positive way.  In short: I have literally nothing to complain about.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles New Animated Adventures #3 is an entertaining romp.  Sure it’s fun to reflect and realize that this is a property based around a TV show that’s based off a comic book but that doesn’t prevent it from being a very entertaining yarn in its own right.  Recommended.
