The official description from IDW:
Splinter instructs Raphael in the true way of the ninja, and Casey’s life is irrevocably changed! The Turtles have a new mission, but Shredder’s ambitions could put an end to it before they begin. Plus, Krang unveils his master plan! This issue lays the groundwork for a thrilling new story arc that plunges the Turtles into two epic wars!
When people think back and remember the story of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I imagine there are certain things they expect to see in any rendition of the franchise. Thankfully, in this latest release, we get some more of those plus some solid story-telling that proves that there is some serious depth to the now continuing adventures of the Heroes in a Half-Shell.
Tom Waltz delivers a script with emotion, as our heroes go through some very strong character driven turning points. Beyond the good-guys however the story and sage of Krang gets some much needed time in the spotlight, as some reveals lead to more welcome references to prior renditions of this saga. Beyond the structure and the pieces involved, it’s the strength of the dialogue that carries this issue to an exceptional cliffhanger that will more than likely lead to the next big story arc in this somewhat epic series.
Andy Kuhn does a superb job on the art, delivering the right stylistic choices that the script requires and then some. His unique pencils, perfectly inform the world our characters inhabit while also offering some rather unique and emotional expressions that give the story an extra layer of soul. The depth brought forth by each pencil stroke ultimately yields an engaging experience with exceptional visual tendencies.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #14 is solid and emotional ride that escalates as it builds toward the future installments in this stellar series. Recommended.
