Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi – Prisoner of Bogan #4 Review

With the fourth act of this specific interstellar odyssey in fan hands, is this series offering something that’s worth your money and time?  Read on to find out.

The official description from Dark Horse:

Even as the Je’daii close in on the mysterious Xesh and his mad ally Daegen Lok, a third party has entered the chase—a powerful woman from Xesh’s past.

Meanwhile, Lok has sought the help of old enemies to help him attain a common goal—the downfall of the Je’daii!

As we enter the penultimate issue the story has forced sides to be chosen as things get to be more and more complicated for our lead characters.  What makes this affair unique is the absolutely dire situation surrounding the narrative as allies betray or save each other in an effort to prevent or prove what’s about to happen.

John Ostrander delivers another crisply realized romp, as he makes full use of his cast in an effort to build up the pressure.  From start to finish the seasoned author knows exactly what he’s going for as he uses dialogue and smartly planned sequences to move this tale forward into an interesting but epic direction.  There were quite a few scenes where the text came off as a bit too corny and these instances did slightly detract from the overall journey but for the most part these minor issues were kept in check with larger moments that simply paid off quite well.

The art by Jan Duursema instantly sells the authenticity of this jaunt that’s been buried deep within the mammoth cannon of the Star Wars franchise.  Each moment is rendered with precision as the seasoned talent uses pencil stroke to breath life into our primary protagonists, antagonists and a few other additions.  By the end of the book I was impressed with the work done and I honestly can’t wait to see the next slew of visualizations.

Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi – Prisoner of Bogan #4 is a good comic that will entertain its core audience as it slowly but surely marches toward the conclusion of this mini-series.  Recommended.
