SPOILER: Big Moment in BEFORE WATCHMEN: SILK SPECTER #3

In case you guys did not pick-up Before Watchmen: Silk Specter #3 (you can read the UTF review here) the DC Blog highlighted a rather big moment from the prequel mini-series.

Before I even say or hint at what happened in this issue, I’m going to be awesome and give you wonderful fanboys and fangirls a nice big: SPOILER WARNING!  Yes, what happened was kind of big and depending on your mindset you may or may not care about it being SPOILED for you, with that in mind I leave the decision to scroll down or not in your very capable hands.  Alright, you’re informed so without further ado, here we go…

Alex Nagorski wrote this on the DC Blog about this interesting moment in comic book history:

Fans of the original WATCHMEN are more than familiar with the classic smiley-face pin that belongs to the infamous Comedian. Who could forget the iconic spattering of the character’s blood across the pin in the book’s opening scene?

But how did the Comedian get this smiley pin? What’s the sentimental value it holds that causes him to keep it on him at all times?

If you’ve already read BEFORE WATCHMEN: SILK SPECTRE #3 (which hit stores this past Wednesday), you saw how the Comedian came to acquire this pin. But if you haven’t already picked up your copy of the issue, then stop reading this post (spoiler alert ahead!).

So what do you guys think?  Is this a big moment for the Watchmen franchise or is it something that just doesn’t matter all that much?  Are you okay with the explanation behind it or do you wish this reveal would have offered a bit more deep?  Sound off with your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.
