Screwed #2 Review

The chase continues but did enough happen to make this second outing as good as the first?  Read on to find out.

The official description from Zenescope:

The carnage continues as Anne’s search for her past leads her to the abandoned meat market where she was found. Slowly her memories begin to filter back to her as she finds information about Project Frankenstein. Meanwhile FBI Agent Erin Scott, Secret Agent Simon and the monstrous Suture are hot on her trail and only one of them has her best interest at heart. Also get a look at the secret Erin Scott is keeping from the world and discover what is the connection between Agent Simon and Suture?

Imagine waking up with no recollection of who or what you are.  Then throw in a bunch of monstrous people chasing you down.  If at this point you don’t understand the tension our protagonist is clearly enduring than I simply submit that you need to take a minute and really bask in the basic terror of this unique situation.

In the second part of this volume Keith Thomas takes an abundance of energy to make our heroine a work of disturbing art.  Anne‘s starting to piece things together as the parallels from the story of Frankenstein become more and more visible to both her and the audience.  To the author’s credit he uses the text to add some necessary back story but the immediate results yield a sluggish pace that might be off putting to some impatient readers that came for some action.

David Miller continues his work on the world and I have to say at this point I am a big fan of the art on display.  His pencil strokes create detailed characters that simply evoke emotions with each hard hitting panel.  There were moments where some of the backgrounds seemed far too void of detail but as far as I’m concerned the important aspects were taken care of, I just wish there would have been less negative space.

Screwed #2 is a thrilling entry that’s destined to find a following. Recommended.
