Rumor: JUSTICE LEAGUE Source Material Revealed?

According to Latino-Review the source material for the upcoming Justice League film has been revealed. Will Beale, the screenwriter who landed the enviable and precarious position of scribe for DC’s upcoming team movie is drawing on Gerry Conway’s Justice League of America 183-185 as inspiration.

These issues were released way back in 1980, acting as the annual team up between Justice League of America and the Justice Society of America. The issues revolve around Darkseid planning the:

destruction of Earth by blasting it with a ray that’ll move Apokolips into the Earth’s place.

Sure sounds like the kind of big, bombastic arc neccessary for a summer blockbuster. With Darkseid roughly equating to Marvel’s Thanos (due to star in Avengers 2) it seems like DC is ready to go toe to toe with Whedon’s behemoth. However, Thanos is just one of Marvel big bad’s whereas Darkseid is kind of DC’s be-all-end-all.

Are they blowing their villainous load too early going straight for Darkseid? Where can you go from there?! I’m sure Mister Mxyzptlk will make a fantastic antagonist for Justice League 2… Let us know what you think in the comments below!
