Robyn Hood: Wanted #3 Review

Robyn Hood is finally back with its third installment. While not quite as good as the previous few, it’s still a pretty entertaining issue.

Here’s the official description from Zenescope:

Dragged back into the Realm of Myst against her will, Robyn finds herself fighting the mysterious assassin, Avella. As Gisbourne watches from afar, putting all of the pieces into place for his endgame, the citizens of Nottingham are left at the mercy of the monstrous Dark Horde. Robyn must return to the people she once liberated to lead their rebellion. . . but will she survive Avella’s wrath long enough to do so?

Wanted has been a very engaging story to say the least. The previous issue had an epic cliffhanger, with Robyn getting transported away by the cunning Avella, an assassin hired by Guy of Gisbourne. This issue has a pretty cool fight between the two ladies, and also some interesting developments. (Though you will grow annoyed by King John’s son.)

Patrick Shand’s writing is at its finest during the fight between Robyn and Avella. The two are quite similar but at the same time polar opposites. Avella is what Robyn could be if she was a villainous assassin. But there’s more to Avella than meets the eye. Shand seemingly has deep plans for her than simply being an assassin hired by Guy, which is good. She’s already the best character aside from Robyn, so any more development would be fantastic. Besides that, the other thing Shand establishes is the subtle romance between Will Scarlet and Robyn. It’s building up very nicely, which is also thanks to the title heroine’s narration.

Larry Watt’s art isn’t bad. It’s not amazing, but it gets the job done for the story. His Robyn never fails to look serious but can convey emotion when needed. The main cover is a solid representation of the big fight inside, though Robyn’s face looks a bit off. Cover B features Robyn about to shoot an arrow. It’s good, but quite generic since there have been plenty of similar covers.

Overall, you can expect some solid action in this issue of Robyn Hood. Beyond that we get some scenes of Guy and Prince John. The former is obviously manipulating the kid, so it’ll be interesting to see where this goes. Robyn Hood continues to be one of the best female-starred books on the stands.

Sounds like a pretty fun comic. This new Robyn Hood is definitely a step up from the classic one. It would be cool to see this turned into a show or video game. The fight scenes are definitely the best part
