Revival #11 Review

Revival #11 is another odd issue. Its one of the less subtle issues, yet it gets plenty of development and story going that I’m still hooked. Maybe that’s just a sign of good craftsmanship or an easily pleased reader. Either way, there’s plenty to read into with Revival ’11.

The official description from Image:

Dana and her father are in a race to save Ibrahaim from trigger happy retired militiaman. Em gets her hands dirty. Poor Tommy the Torso.

I think one of the benefits of this issue is that it focuses on two key events, giving each the time and attention it deserves. Not only does this make it easier to read, it gives the greater sense that these things mean something. Once again, however, I have to say I prefer Em over Dana, who’s becoming less of a central figure with each issue.

I’d say my issues lie mainly with the writing. Tim Seeley writes well and knows the story he’s crafting. Yet Em still has more focus and attention, as if Dana is often forgotten about. Em is also more closely tied to the story, such as the revival incident itself and the ‘thing in the woods’ creature that, well, Revival is just better this way and I’d like to see more of it.

In terms of visuals, Mike Norton offers his usual high standard. He knows his stuff and offers the usual blues and whites of the snowy setting. That said, he offers variety where possible, looking to introduce color where its needed. It suits the spooky atmosphere of the title but doesn’t repeat itself too much. The large, generous panels and frames also make good use of the artistic talent, butting it right on display.

In short, I’m still impressed with this issue. Revival has still answered very little, but this issue doesn’t leave me with loads more questions. Instead, its simply a satisfying read through from start to finish, fitting well alongside previous issues of Revival.
