Wolverine #6 Review

What will happen in Madripoor? Read on to find out.

The official description from Marvel:

• As his plan to take down Sabretooth takes shape, Wolverine goes undercover in Madripoor – but he’s not the only one with his eyes on Sabretooth’s empire – what do PETE WISDOM & MI-13 have to do with it?
• Paul Cornell (WOLVERINE: KILLABLE) and Gerardo Sandoval (CABLE & X-FORCE) bring you a two part epic that’ll push the mortal Wolverine to his limits!

WOLV2014006-int-LR2-2-de798Wolverine is a series that near enough always has me torn as one minute I find it to be an excellent series and within an issue or two I can find it really dull. The later is the case with this issue as the latest Wolverine story got of to a questionable start.

Paul Cornell makes me continually guess where the story is heading as though we all know what’s going to happen to Wolverine come September this current series is usually quite unpredictable. One thing that I really enjoy about Cornell’s Wolverine run has to be the way he shows the man and his torn objectives. The main problem I had however with this issue had to be the rather hectic and confusing pace as one minute Wolverine’s fighting in Madripoor and the next he’s talking with MI-13. Now I loved seeing Faiza Hussain, Pete Wisdom and the other MI-13 agents but the sudden twist took away from the dynamic of the issue slightly.

Gerardo Sandoval once again handles the artwork with his quirky style impressing me even more this time round. The unique layouts along with the overall dynamic flow adds a lot of energy to the opening part of this issue whilst also allowing the start of Wolverine’s trip to Madripoor to feel rather sombre. He also did a stellar job when it came to the action as the explosiveness of the sequence was fitting for a Wolverine comic. Alongside this David Curiel also continues to amaze me with his colours setting a definitive tone for this series.

Wolverine‘s latest arc doesn’t get off to a fantastic start as despite having some interesting and exciting moments it was a little too hectic and confusing. Nonetheless it still scrapes through with a recommendation from me.
