Is this a worthwhile outing? Or a mindless distraction? Read on to find out.
The official description from Image:
Sara Pezzini’s fiercest ally in her battles against the supernatural has always been the Witchblade. But what happens if the Witchblade abandons Sara when she needs it most? A shocking turn of events leaves Sara alone and in deadly danger!
With a mammoth story arc on the horizon, I’ll bet many fanboys and fangirls had no idea if this release was going to carry any worth for them. I’m happy to report that even with Darkness Falls coming, the current creative team made use of their time while building up a mystery that could lead to something more.
I have to admit that when any author returns to a title that he or she transformed there’s a tall order and a built in expectation that they’ve got something more to say. We haven’t quite reached that yet but Ron Marz delivers another solid outing that’s bound to please. This time we find our Sheriff in a situation that puts her directly in the path of a big bad wolf, and wouldn’t you know it? There’s more to the story, especially as we reach a striking cliffhanger. If you were waiting for answers there aren’t any yet, but you can rest assured that the whole thing was fun to read.
When it comes to Witchblade the franchise needs a sturdy hand for its art to work. And right now we have the immensely talented illustrator, Laura Braga who, once again delivered monsters and emotion when the situation called for it. Her pencil strokes almost perfectly evoked the core elements of our primary character. The entire comic just enjoys a level of elegance within a visual execution that’s further accentuated by Besty Gonia and her vibrant colors.
Witchblade #179 proves that Sara Pezzini, our tough as nails bearer, has been around the supernatural block more times then she would probably care to count. But I’m just as eager to peruse her exploits as I was when I first dived into the series back in 2000. Recommended.
