Trish Out of Water #5 Review

It’s hard not to instantly compare this to everything Fathom, but to do so would be a disservice to what this title represents.Through their own methods this creative team augments our understanding of the Blue while injecting just enough originality to make something new.

Vince Hernandez is the captain, and he charts this course well. This is without a doubt due to the fact that the author has the ability to make it feel both natural and genuine. It’s that human aspect which allows the journey of Trish to stand above the rest. I have to say I was impressed with a teenager who’s faced with life and death situations as well as the revelations that are simply forced upon her. It gives her the chance to become more than what she thought she could be in what amounts to a sterling effort.

Giuseppe Cafaro is exactly the type of illustrator to bring in these festivities. He nails the complexities of the visuals as he tells two diverging plots each with their own unique elements. A story on land leads to a disturbing warehouse, and one below the surface sees a girl start a path toward her own birthright. Each of these are thematically interesting and realized with quirky illustrations that are augmented by the colors done by Ruben Curto, Manuela Nerolini and Mad5 Factory.

Trish Out of Water #5 is exactly the type of ending this needed. Paths are somewhat realized while mysteries continue, and fans will be left hoping that a new volume gets announced rather quickly. Highly recommended.
