SPECIAL OVERSIZED ISSUE!

Dr. David Loren tries to help a SEAL team member overcome his PTSD in a story that will make you laugh and cry. Plus Zero G dogs!

Think Tank-Fun with PTSD 1_Preview PageIt’s nice to see the return of that one comic that carries the slogan, “DANGER: Reading this book will make you smarter.” And to be frank that’s the truth, as it presents a hyper reality that blurs the line between currently accepted science and rationalized technological fiction. From the first page to the final panel the narrative moves forward with an honest intent to deal with serious issues with a stellar creative team at its back.

Matt Hawkins has a way of taking this product and using its main character to shine a light on topics that escape the attention of our society. Dr. David Loren, when given almost any subject is a near perfect advocate, and thanks to his slacker mentalities, can explain just about anything in somewhat simplified terms. And its through the words of the author that we deal with the impact of PTSD, kids with cancer, dogs in zero gravity and even the obstacles in a committed relationship. The end result is a script that pushes on our own reactions while making its point loud and clear.

Now onto the spectacular art by Rahsan Ekedal. This man has an uncanny ability to take on a immense amount of detail while also diving directly into panels that require a soft touch. Each sequence involving Newton inspires a response to the cuteness while a conversation with Petty Officer Morgan leaves a sense of regret. It’s a fine line to walk but this talent can do it with ease, and trust me if you buy this comic for the art alone its more than worth the price of admission.

Think Tank: Fun with PTSD #1 is a high caliber book that deserves attention. Through the work of its creative team this release easily earns my praise. Highly recommended.
