Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles New Animated Adventures #13 Review

Can April’s school learning help her and the Turtles defeat the Kraang? Read on to find out.

The official description from IDW:

The Kraang have infiltrated the local zoo, and the mutation possibilities are endless! With no way in without being seen, the Turtles are at a loss to stop the mass mutation. Their only hope lies with April! Can she stop the Kraang’s newest scheme in time?

TMNT-Animate13-cvrRI-copy-96f6aTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtles New Animated Adventures brings us yet another fun and entertaining issue with April taking centre stage. With the Kraang taking over the zoo and the Turtles proving less than helpful it’s down to April to find way of thwarting the Kraang. Though some of the twists were obvious from the start the smart plot development along with quirky dialogue made it a very exciting issue.

The script for the main story was written by Jackson Lanzing and David Server with the duo bringing a lively and well thought out tale. Having an enticing set-up and a fabulous pay off the story manages to enthrall, despite the long winded start. Like most of the series we are also privy to a back-up tale with Landry Walker once again writing it. Much like most of Walker’s writing on the series the tale proved very fun and charming with the only thing letting it down being it’s briefness.

Dario Brizuela handles the artwork for the main story with David Alvarez working on the back-up. Both artists do a stellar job, capturing the charm and energy of the TV series perfectly. They also manage to give some dynamic layouts and along with the lively action it manages to elevate the tone of the stories. Despite all this it was Alvarez’ intense facial expressions in the back-up that impressed most with it adding so much humour.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles New Animated Adventures continues to be a fun and entertaining read and I urge anyone who has some spare cash to give it a try. Recommended.
