Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #31 Review

Can this peace and tranquility really last? Read on to find out.

The official description from IDW:

While strategically secluded in Northampton, the Turtles are hit by new revelations involving enemies’ shifting loyalties, miracle cures, and ghosts from the past. And in the present, grave danger is about to strike! What new Foot Clan menace is hunting the Turtles?

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 31_Preview Page 1The emotions flow freely in an issue that sees a lot of growth for the entire primary cast of this comic book. Devoted fans should be rejoicing because thanks to the hard work of this steadfast creative team we’re given the comic interpretation of the Heroes in a Half-Shell that we deserve.

Working with Kevin Eastman and Bobby Curnow the exceptional scribe Tom Waltz puts pen to paper in another entry for this epilogue to City Fall. He emotes the pain with some striking dialogue, as we see paired up conversations that are all leading to the same inevitable conclusion. Our protagonists may have left their world full of problems behind but it was only a matter of time before they needed to be ready for what comes next. I can’t give enough praise for the text and the exemplarly author behind it, this is exactly the reason why I get so invested in monthly comics.

I honestly saw value in the illustrations done by Ross Campbell, but it’s the later half of the book that easily sells the talent as a force to be reckoned with. He captures the raw nature of each character’s emotional arc but when the moment comes and action is required he is more than up to the task at hand. The final panel found in this particular release is beyond epic, as one of the four brothers stands tall in the face of assassins. Add in the colors done by Ronda Pattison and we have something that’s a constant reward for any and all followers.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #31 is an outstanding entry that barely misses the mark on what I would deem as perfection. These four brothers, their father and friends come highly recommended.
