The official description from Dark Horse:

Luke, Leia, Han, and Chewie are together again aboard the Millennium Falcon. Disguised as smugglers, they have a crazy caper to pull off—if they can avoid the dread bounty hunter IG-88!

Star Wars 19_Preview PageThe final arc for this impressive extension of the original trilogy is at hand. And the first issue is both bittersweet and endlessly awesome as the creative team continues to craft something that feels like a proper addition which expands the plot of a galaxy far, far away. In short: it’s nice to see a release that feels like it just ebbs and flows with the Force.

Brian Wood pens the narrative and the author makes sure to remind all of us what’s befallen our primary heroes and their Rebel Alliance. It’s been a hard few months and I think everyone, from Leia Organa to Mon Mothma, could use a win here as their struggle against the Galactic Empire continues. And so enters a lost spy, who happens to be a childhood friend of our princess, that’s hunted by IG-88. What follows is a body of text that effortlessly plays up the classic tropes and traits to which we’ve all become accustomed to.

The illustrations done by Carlos D’Anda differ from what many fanboys and fangirls remember of the interstellar cast. But enough of their core mechanics are visible via a highly detailed display that does no more or less than showcase a unique perspective. Add in the colors by Gabe Eltaeb and the entire visual package is exactly what it needs to be as it never hinders memory or seeks to subvert the aged material for its own ends.

Star Wars #19 is an easy comic to grade because when I closed its final page I was grinning. The narrative was whimsical enough to just take me back to my childhood as that fact remained relevant. With that in mind the first part of this arc earns praise, attention and the right to be highly recommended.
