The Revenge #4 Review

Will Griffin get his ultimate revenge or is this a unsavoury ending for the Revenger? Read on to find out.

The official description from Image:

MINISERIES CONCLUSION! Griffin Franks is finished, done for, as good as dead. At least that’s what his trophy wife Candy believes. But she’s wrong. When Griffin’s beloved dog Lobo dies in his arms, the trigger is pulled—“If you wrong us, shall we not revenge?” You bet your ass he will…

Revenge #4The Revenge has finally came to it’s conclusion with the four-issue mini-series giving us a spectacular conclusion to this phenomenal story. The way that the issue builds up to the inevitable brutal actions of Griffin really impressed me with the character showing a lot of depth and remorse for his past actions. Despite this it was always going to be the level of brutality that would impress me the most as given the graphic actions of the series prior to this issue I’d be disappointed if it had a timid ending.

Jonathan Ross has produced his best work to date on this series as though the graphic and crude nature of the series may alienate some Image fans it has certainly appealed to this fanboy. Ross continues to amaze in this issue with the narration, dialogue and action being immense. I also really enjoyed how Ross allowed Griffin and Alice to bury the hatchet and become the father and daughter they really deserved to be. Despite all this the issue wasn’t perfect as though as the rapid movement between sequences and cliché ending meant that it wasn’t the best issue in the series.

Ian Churchill didn’t fail to astonish with his artwork on this issue being every bit as phenomenal as it was on the first. Throughout this series Churchill has given the gritty yet beautiful look that this series has needed, bring both the glamour and the gore. He continues to do this in a huge way throughout this issue and along with his striking layouts it makes for a captivating visual accompaniment to the series. Churchill’s detail also astounds on other levels as with several well known celebrities having cameos it was marvellous to see the uncanny resemblance with it being the next best thing to a photograph.

The Revenge comes to a gripping conclusion with this edgy series ending on a massive high. On the flip side I for one will miss reading Griffin’s tale and can only pray for a sequel. Highly recommended.
