Manifest Destiny #7 variantAfter a months break Manifest Destiny returns for it’s second arc with Lewis and Clark continuing their exploration of this strange and wonderful world. Having survived the Flora the pair take their team further into this strange world with their being new creatures and intriguing revelations along the way.

Chris Dingess does a decent job of starting this new arc as though it felt rather slow, taking a while to get into a decent groove it did manage to give some intriguing and at times shocking developments. One in particular that grabbed my attention was the revelation of Lewis and Clark’s secret with one of the female companions learning more than she should know. The dramatic way that Dingess handled this development along with the new creature introduced near the end really saved this issue with this new storyline showing some promise.

Matthew Roberts continues to produce astonishing artwork on this series and I honestly can’t get enough of it. The gritty yet detailed style of his art is truly captivating with the sleek character expressions and realistic look giving a dramatic tone to the story. Roberts also does a wonderful job when it comes to the stranger part of this series with the scenery and creatures having an intense look to them. As usual Roberts’ art is also enhanced by the stunning colours of Owen Gieni with his captivating pallet giving the perfect finish to this visually amazing comic.

Manifest Destiny‘s second arc gets off to a decent start but it’s nowhere near as good as the start of the first. There may be dramatic interaction with a gripping cliffhanger but all in all the pace was a little to slow. It is however good enough to squeeze by with a light recommendation.
