Lola XOXO #2 Review

A fresh property continues to move forward, but should you really care? Read on to find out.

The official description from Aspen:

Aspen’s newest hit series continues!

Lola becomes a recruit for the notorious Wasteland Trading Company, but their true intentions may not fit with her own motives for survival.

Meanwhile, a rogue group of carnies manage to escape from their delirious carnival, and Lola finds herself as the person responsible for retrieving this wild-and dangerous-bunch!

Lola XOXO 2_Variant CoverTwo issues in and the creator behind this new franchise has accomplished two distinct things. First the main protagonist is interesting enough to root for and leave the audience eager to know more. Second the narrative, in a ruined world, remains focused on the goals birthed in the opening release.

Siya Oum handles the written word, and the scribe proves that from the first page to the final panel that this is a script that’s worth your time. Continued growth for our protagonist and evolution to the slowly forming plot blend together in a near seamless way. Lola has a very simple desire but as she embarks into her own adventure it’s becoming more obvious that she’s going to have to go through hell to get the answers she seeks. The only detriment found within is the fact that several secondary characters, save for a select few, come off a bit rushed and rather underdeveloped.

What really makes this release a must own is the stylized visuals by Siya Oum. The talent pulls double duty delivering a wide array of renditions with just enough detail to sell the circumstances of this future yarn. In particular the faces of each cast member during action sequences or simple conversations remain in lock-step with the text. In short: this is a good looking jaunt that deserves attention and praise.

Lola XOXO #2 feels a tad bit familiar to fans of the post apocalyptic genre, but there’s enough going on here along with narrative progression to garner interest. So by all means grab this one from your local shop, and don’t forget first release because it all comes recommended.
