My Little Pony: Friends Forever #10 Review

Friends Forever reaches double digits! How does this Fluttershy team-up turn out? Let’s find out.

Here’s the official description from IDW:

Fluttershy gets an unexpected visit from the most aggressive guy around, Iron Will! Can Fluttershy teach the minotaur the benefits of a more gentle demeanor?

This might be the weakest issue in the series yet. It wasn’t necessarily bad, it’s just very uneventful and rushed. Iron Will has his fans I’m sure, so they will be disappointed at his rather meek character portrayal. The ponies sound a bit cardboard. I’m not quite sure what it is but the writing throughout felt off. It would have been nice to actually see Iron Will’s new goal in action, but it just ends with him leaving. While it’s not a wasted read, it’s definitely mediocre.

MyLittlePonyFF10-covSUBChristine Rice crafts an interesting concept of  a team-up. The last time Iron Will appeared was in the Season 2 episode, ‘Putting Your Hoof Down’ where he attempted to make Fluttershy tough. The story here is the opposite where she instead attempts to make him kind. So what we have is a solid concept for an MLP story. Sadly, it’s just dull. Everything happens too quickly, and everypony just sounds…off for some reason. The reason why Iron Will is seeking Fluttershy’s help is interesting, but since we don’t get to actually the outcome, it falls flat.

The Art by Agnes Garbowska isn’t bad, but like the writing it looks flat with with very little emotion. The main cover by Amy Mebberson is solid, as usual with her work. The subscription variant by Garbowska is unique and displays some humor, which the interiors failed to do.

Overall, a sadly underwhelming issue. The concept is good but nearly everything falls flat. The writing is devoid of the genuineness the reader has come to expect from the My Little Pony comics. It isn’t terrible, but easily one of the most mediocre MLP issues.

I personally disliked the mane 5 (Fluttershy being the exception) in this story. I guess I could understand at the beginning that they were trying to protect Fluttershy but at the end when they were criticizing and disrespecting his cooking that Iron Will did as a kind gesture, that pissed me off. Like way to be the elements of friendship jerks. Other then that I agree it was a pretty lame issue, typical shit.
