Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles New Animated Adventures #15 variantThere are times where I feel like a broken record when it comes to talking about this series, as though Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: New Animated Adventures may never be in line for a pick of the week, it remains fun and entertaining with each passing issue. Delivering three adventures this time round, this issue sees Leonardo captured by Fishface, Ice Cream Kitty go missing, and Splinter attempt to master a video game.

The writing duties on this issue is split between regular writer Landry Walker, Beware the Batman writer Matthew K. Manning, and series editor Bobby Curnow. All three writers create thoroughly enjoyable tales, but it was the Splinter yarn written by Curnow that I enjoyed the most, with the video game elements being very clever. I did however find the same recurring problem, and that was pacing. Having three different tales squeezed into one normal sized issue means little time for development, with most of the endings feeling very sudden.

The artwork was also split into three, with Dario Brizuela, Marcelo Ferreira and Chad Thomas working on a story each. Having all worked on the series frequently over the course, they all know exactly what they’re doing, giving a look that matches the TV series, whilst also being unique and dynamic. Much like the writing it was the third tale that captivated me most artistically, with Thomas’ utilisation of bit format video games enticing this long time gamer. On top off this all the art was brilliantly finished by series colourist Heather Breckel, with her vibrant palette adding that extra bit of punch to all three tales.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: New Animated Adventures continues to be a fun entertaining read, as though it feels a bit compact to have three different tales, they utilise the space as best as they can. Recommended.
