Patricia Briggs’ Mercy Thompson: Hopcross Jilly #2 Review

Mercy Thompson is continuing to be a badass with this comic book. As things heat up, Mercy has a mystery that needs solving. Read on to find out more.

The official description from Dynamite:

Continuing the all-new Mercy Thompson comic book adventure by New York Times’ bestselling author Patricia Briggs! While more dead bodies emerge from the mass graves discovered by Mercy Thompson, her step-daughter Jesse finds herself in the firing line of some unpleasant accusations at school–where only the new student is on her side. But is all as it seems? You’ve never read a Mercy Thompson story like this before!

Mercy02-2-c3cc7The whole comic has been an interesting one because of the ideas and tones that it is trying to convey. It seems that it is talking about bullying, being different, and sins of the father. Now, I have not read the book that this is shadowbased on but I can tell you as a comic it is really something great. This issue deals with the problems of the last issue with the wolf pack finding the bodies and Mercy trying to figure out what is going on to clear the packs name. The other side of this is the story of Jesse who is dealing with accusations of what her father has or has not done and she is blamed. It is really a great look at the judgment that people can bring forth. Also, the ending was fantastic.

Patricia Briggs and Rik Hoskin, both, know how to keep the reader sympathetic and interested by the way they put the characters into situations and created a new need to care about them. It is the greatest thing that a writer does and they succeed. They, also, know how to end a comic because I am ready for the issue.

Tom Garcia is a great artist and really conveys the emotions that people have so well. You will really enjoy this comic.
