The official description from Image:

GUEST-STARRING BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS! Brian Michael Bendis comes to Buckaroo, Oregon looking to do research on a comic book about the ultimate serial killers! If you’ve ever wanted to see BENDIS running in the dark and screaming in fear, this is the comic for you!

Nailbiter07_Page2There have been a few comic creators to appear as characters within comics, with Frank Miller and Alan Moore being amongst the more notable (having appeared in the Goon). Brian Michael Bendis is also a name that appears on this list, with Nailbiter #7 being his latest appearance. Whilst hunting for research for his latest comic book series, Bendis finds the darker regions of Buckaroo, with Edward also giving some interesting information.

Joshua Williamson has been doing a fantastic job on this series, but I do question his choice to add Bendis as a character. Yes, the addition of a comic book creator is always a pleasant sight, giving a, “ah look who that is,” moment, but it also brings added baggage, with the incorporation process being a little time consuming. I also found the series of questions from Bendis to be a little dull, with there being little narrative to the issue. Despite this there was some fun dialogue, with the interaction between Bendis and Edward being entertaining.

Mike Henderson‘s art on the other hand is as awesome as ever, having a very gripping vibe to it. Despite there being little room for suspense, the artist manages to give a very deep, and fluid look to this tale, with the character expressions adding both humour and tension. Henderson also captures Bendis’ likeness brilliantly, with the character feeling like the man himself. Despite this he does stand out like a sore thumb, and though this isn’t a fault of the artist, it does leave a grey area in the visuals. The colours also give a sharp finish to the art, with Adam Guzowski once again doing an amazing job.

Nailbiter #7 proves to be a rather forgettable issue, as though the appearance of Brian Michael Bendis proves intriguing, with there being some brilliant dialogue from the character, it just felt unnecessary, hindering the overall story. Despite this it still proves better than most of the comics that grace our comic stands, and comes recommended.
