Manifest Destiny #10 previewManifest Destiny has been a series that I’ve enjoyed since day one. It had however been declining ever so slightly in quality, losing overall in excitement. Fortunately that all changed last issue, as with intense developments the book seems to be back to it’s phenomenal ways. This is reflected in this issue, with the tempo remaining high despite not being quite as exciting.

Chris Dingess has really impressed over these last two issues, with the events being thoroughly enjoyable. Though this issue doesn’t prove quite as exciting as last, it does prove more intriguing. Between Lewis’ experiments and the exchange of dialogue between him and Mrs. Boniface, there is a lot of tension throughout. As ever Dingess also captivates with the monstrous creatures of this island, with the mosquitos though small (in comparison to prior creatures) proving a serious threat.

One thing that always impresses me about Manifest Destiny is the art. The amazing detail of Matthew Roberts‘ pencils, coupled with the bold and gritty finish from his inks really help the events of this issue to pop. His layouts, and general character positioning also add a dynamic flow to the story, with the character expressions adding intensity. Rounding things off we get toned colours from Owen Gieni, with his intense palette working brilliantly alongside Roberts art.

Manifest Destiny continues to return to it’s breathtaking ways, with the gripping events of this issue making it a must have. Highly recommended.
