Groo vs. Conan #4 Review

The two baddest barbarians in the comic universe have fought each other and been brought together in the hopes of keep their individual worlds together but will they be successful or fail. Read on to find out more.

Sergio Aragonés!

The final showdown between the world’s greatest warrior and comics’ biggest idiot! Conan fights for his kingdom, Groo fights for his bakery, and Sergio and Mark fight for their comic shop . . . Triple story lines collide in a chaotic climax of barbaric proportions!

grooconan4p1There is a lot going on in this comic book and I believe that this issue was two things. One, this issue was not long enough for what it was trying to accomplish because it is, literally, three stories woven into one. Two, it is a lot of fun. However, it does fail in some respects. The story continues the two barbarians being brought together and fighting, sometimes against each other and sometimes toward other characters. However, we never get the feel that they hate each. This is, both, an interesting take but, also confusing. So you have this going on and then Sergio and Mark in their own story to some extent which adds a meta idea but it only works a little. However, it is really fun.

Mark Evanier is a really great writer and I think that he succeeds in several respects, however, this issue needed to be two issues so that we could really get the full story. It feels rushed but again I do think that this was pretty good for the amount that he had to work with.

Sergio Aragonés, and  Thomas Yeates do a great job of bringing the worlds to life. They each have

their own style and you can see that it is part of their world of drawing. It is really cool to see.
