Indestructible #4 Review

In the wake of an apparent attack can our unqualified protagonist do anything to save the day? Read on to find out.

The official description from IDW:

For Greg Pincus, being a superhero has its advantages: Growing fame. The promise of fortune. And carnal attention from the opposite sex. ‘Course, if Greg had actual superpowers, he might be able to save the city. But, he doesn’t. Which makes it nearly impossible for Greg to save even himself.

Indestructible 4_Preview Page AThis is easily one of the most entertaining titles I cover for UTF. What we have here is a mixed bag that acts as both social commentary and outlandish farce while maintaining the right notes to properly become a buddy comedy. Thanks to the efforts of the creative team the odyssey of this nobody turned instant celebrity has been memorable to say the least, and this latest outing is no different.

Jeff Kline helms the writing responsibilities and the scribe does a marvelous job throwing his audience directly into the fray. We see Greg Pincus put in two situations that tests the mantle of his burgeoning hero status. The first proves that he’s got it within himself to stand for what’s right, even if it is a bit accidental. And the second allows us to see the human toll of being in the public eye. Thankfully the author has a solid grasp on both, as we get to see these varied perspectives while enjoying some minor quips along the way.

The art by Christopher Johnson is once again one of the strongest points in this release. He captures a sort of kinetic energy that’s just infectious from beginning to end. And save for a few lackluster renditions, this talent easily captures my attention. Add in the colors done by Douglas Sirois and Zac Atkinson and you’ll find a pleasing visual display that may not rival the best in the industry but perfectly suits this newer title.

Indestructible #4 is a site favorite and one of the books that instantly captures the imagination. It’s fun, inspired and certainly worthy of your time and attention. Recommended.
